He always stressed the importance that the client comes first and all the steps an attorney can take to make sure that happens. In 2022, Jim’s father passed away two months short of having practiced law for 60 years.

In 1998, Jim and his family moved to Portland so his wife could help take care of her mother, who had Parkinson’s. LAURA NEWSOM

ATTORNEY

Laura A. Newsom is an attorney at The Gatti Law Firm. She exclusively handles workers’ compensation cases for our clients who have been hurt while on-the-job.

Before coming to The Gatti Law Firm and helping injured clients, Laura worked on the other side of injury cases, which means she represented employers and insurance companies in both private practice and in-house at a large insurance company. This experience has given Laura invaluable insight that she now uses to help leverage the best outcomes for her clients. If an opponent has a tactic to use against her client, then there is a good chance she has already fully anticipated it.

Laura’s favorite part of the job is the privilege to pick up the fight for people in need, so that her clients can refocus their energy on their recoveries. Whether she is fighting for her clients at hearing or obtaining great settlements, Laura’s strategy is to move quickly while being attentive to every detail of the case.

While earning her bachelor’s degree and maintaining a 3.96 grade point average, Laura was awarded ESPN’s Academic All-American while playing collegiate soccer. While attending the University of Oregon’s School of Law, she used her advocacy skills to help children in the juvenile justice system by volunteering at Youth, Rights & Justice, a nationally acclaimed non-profit. When Laura is not working on a case, she can be found cooking and spending time with her husband and their two young boys.
